In March of 2011 this organ was damaged by the Tōhoku earthquake, the most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Japan. Approximately 100 metal pipes were damaged including 8' C in the Great facade, along with many other parts of the organ. In September of 2011, we shipped enough pipe shop tools to set up and repair the pipes on site, along with a large amount of other tools to make other repairs. We added some cross-bracing underneath the organ to hopefully keep it more stable in case of another earthquake, and in subsequent trips we have made other improvements such as additional interior racking, work lights, and a reconfigured walkboard among other things. We are thrilled to have the privilege to work on this fabulous organ, built by Jürgen Ahrend in 1989.
